| How often should I
have my pet groomed? |
This will depend
a lot on the breed and how much time you have to spend grooming your pet
at home. Long coated breeds such as a Maltese or Shih Tzu need very
frequent grooming while a short coated breed may need only an occasional
grooming.
The average pet needs to be professionally groomed between four and six
weeks. |
| What does a
professional grooming include? |
Holley-day
Grooming offers 'full service".
At HDG, a grooming includes the following:
Bath (flea baths are always free), fluff dry, "pet"icure (nail trim and
buff), ears cleaned, the clip, cologne and bows and/or bandana.
We offer additional services such as special shampoos, conditioners, Hot
oil treatments, etc.
(When you have your pet groomed, make sure to ask what services are
included, not all salons are the same and many times even the bath could
be considered an "extra").
|
| How much will the
grooming cost? |
The cost of
grooming will vary from dog to dog. There is a "basic starting price"
for each breed. This breed price is based on the "standard clip or
grooming" for that breed on a pet that is in good coat condition. We
determine the price of each dog individually bases on breed,
temperament, style, size, and condition of the coat. This is why two
dogs of the same breed and like appearance could have a fairly
significant difference in price. Also, the price can vary from grooming
to grooming depending on the same conditions.
|
| Can I stay with my
dog while being groomed? |
We do have an
"open door" policy meaning that you are welcome to check on your pet at
any time and that you are welcome to wait in our waiting area. However,
we do not allow pet owners to be in the actual grooming area with pets.
In most cases it actually excites the dog seeing it's master thus making
the grooming process much harder for the groomer and the pet.
|
| Do you sedate the
dogs? |
We do
not sedate pets in any way. Our
groomers are very gentle and experienced and in most all cases there is
no need for concern. We believe that if your pet for any reason does
need to be sedated to be groomed that the owner of the pet take it to
the veterinarian. Groomers are not qualified to administer drugs to
your pet and should not do so at any time.
(Remember that the grooming process can be very tiring to your pet,
especially very young and old dogs. Many times they will come home and
sleep more than usual after grooming).
|
| Do you muzzle or
use restraints? |
We do not use
muzzles as regular procedure. However, if we feel that the groomer is
at high risk of being bitten, then we may feel a muzzle is necessary.
Our professionally designed grooming tables are equipped with a grooming
loop, this is a loop that is placed around your pet for your pet's
safety. It is not done in a tight or uncomfortable manner. If you
have concerns about this, discuss it with your groomer.
|
| Does my dog have to
be vaccinated before you will groom him? |
Yes, it is very
important for the health of your pet and others that he be current on
all vaccinations.
|
| What would happen
if my dog were to bite the groomer? |
If you have any
concerns at all about your pet possibly biting, please bring it to our
attention.
This does not mean that we will not attempt to groom your pet but we can
take extra precaution . If indeed your pet were to bite the groomer and
need medical attention, by law the doctor must submit a report to the
Department of Health at which time there is a ten day quarantined check
of the pet.
|
| Why does my pet
have to stay so long? |
The average
grooming process on the average dog takes about 2 hours. At HDG, we
like to have the pets stay with us a minimum of 4 hours in most cases
and try to have them back to owners in a reasonable period of time.
Our staff generally consists of at least 2-3 groomers meaning that we
have a fairly large number of pets in our salon each day. The groomers
share bathing and grooming stations at times. The dogs are given good
rest periods, water and walks (on leash in a safe, fenced doggy walk
area, one at a time) as needed. This takes extra time. We do not want to
rush your dog through it's grooming process. Although we groom many pets
in a day, the quality of our work on each pet is a priority. To
accomplish this we appreciate your patience in allowing us the time
needed.
|
| Is my pet kept in
a cage? |
All pets are kept
separately from other dogs in their own cage. This is sometimes a
concern for pet owners who do not use crates/cages at home. This is not
an uncomfortable situation for them. It is a very safe practice. It is
not safe to let dogs freely roam around a facility with other pets. We
use open sided cages for comfortable air flow. Our facility is well
heated , cooled and ventilated. The pets are checked on frequently.
We also have a camera monitoring system allowing us to see our dogs at
all times.
